David is a Registered Foreign Lawyer in Hong Kong advising on Canadian law. He is qualified in British Columbia (Canada) and is an experienced disputes lawyer.

He focuses on high value and multi-jurisdictional shipping, energy, and insurance disputes, and he has handled numerous cases in international arbitration and before the Canadian courts. He has acted for a spectrum of freight forwarders, operators, charterers, cargo interests, vessel owners, commodity traders, and insurers. Some of his Asia-facing experience includes:

Representing one of the world’s largest methanol producers and distributors in respect of a large claim for contaminated methanol shipped from the United States to Korea.
Advising reinsurers in respect of a shipment of contaminated petcoke originating from China.
Acting for a furniture manufacturer in respect of a large international trade dispute involving goods manufactured in Indonesia and shipped to Canada.
Instructed by reinsurers following a vessel anchor drag and collision with offshore energy infrastructure in the South China Sea.
Advising insurers respecting subrogated recovery following an allision between a vessel and oil-field infrastructure in the Gulf of Thailand.

David is particularly known for advancing complex subrogated matters for insurance clients and has experience working with a range of domestic and international insureds. David is skilled in bringing together a viable legal case with the cooperation of the insured while balancing financial risk and recovery for the insurance client.

David is a key contact for DWF in the Asia-Pacific region and co-leads the APAC Global Recovery Group.
